アメリカでは　　”  goof off 　 ” といいます。

「botch (up) something」というイディオムの由来は、中世英語の「bocchen」に遡ります。

これは「補修する」「修繕する」といった意味がありましたが、しばしば雑で不完全な修繕を指していました。

次第に、「いい加減に修理する」「しくじる」という否定的な意味合いが強くなりました。
