30. 数・量・割合を表現する
目の前に複数のものがあるときには、その数を示すことで情報を伝えることが必要になるかもしれません。基本的な数の表現を確認していきましょう。「いくつかの；いくらかの」という意味のsomeや「多くの；たくさんのJという意昧のa lot of, many, muchなどがもっとも基本的なものですが、このほか、most of…「ほとんどの」、some of…「・・・のいくつか；いくらか」、two of…「…のふたつ；ふたり」などofを含むフレーズが多用されます。

Some coffee cups are in front of the bottles.
ボトルの前にコーヒーカップがいくつかあります。
◎a lot of…「たくさんの•••J
These children received a lot of presents.
この子たちはたくさんのプレゼントをもらいました。
◎a number of…「数名の…；多くの…」
Recently, a number of Japanese astronauts have gone to the International
Space Station.
最近は、数名の日本人宇宙飛行士が国際宇宙ステーションに行きました。

There are only a few clouds in the sk y.
空にはわすかな雲しかありません。
◎most of…「ほとんどの…」
Most of the people in the boats are couples.
ボートに乗っている人のほとんどはカップルです。
◎many of…「…の多く」
Many of them are likely y on a date.
彼らの多くはデートしているようです。
◎some of…「…のいくらか；いくつか」
Some of them are crossing the street.
彼らのいくらかは通りを横断しています。
◎two of…「…のふたり」
Two of the women are drinking wine.
女性のふたりはワインを飲んでいます。

The majority of them are probably tourists.
