29. 受け身で表現する
「～が•••されるjという意味になる受動態表現を確認しましょう。受動態は〔be動詞＋過去分詞〕の形で「…される・されている／された・されていた」といった意味になります。by…「…によって」、with…卜で」、for…「・・・のために； …に向けて」といった語句と組み合わせた使い方も確認しておきましょう。
◎be called…「…と呼ばれる」
The river shown in the center of the picture is called the Kanda River.
写真の真ん中の川は神田川と呼ばれています。
◎be decorated with…「 …で飾られる」
The tree is decorated with Christmas lights and ornaments.
その木はクリスマスのライトや装飾で飾りつけられています。
◎be made for…「…向けに作られる」
All of these products are made for women.
これらの製品はすべて女性向けに作られています。
◎be bred and trained to…「…するために飼育され訓練される」
The horses are bred and trained to run very fast.
馬はとても速く走るように飼育され訓練されます。
◎be boiled in…「…の中でゆでられる」
Normally, the ingredients are boiled in broth and shared by people at the table.
ふつう、食材はスープの中でゆでられ、テーブルのみんなで分け合います。
◎be surrounded by…「・・・に囲まれるJ
They are surrounded by a forest, so they will probably see a variety of animals.
彼らは森に囲まれているので、おそらくいろいろな動物に遭遇することでしょう。
◎〔過去の受動態〕was/were taken at…「…で取られた」
This picture was taken at an airport.
この写真は空港で撮られたものです。
◎ （受動態の進行形）be being photographed…「写真撮影されている」
The woman sitting in the chair is being photographed.
イスに座っている女性が、写真を撮られています。
