20. 理由を述べる
理由を述べながら、なんらかの現象や事実を説明することが必要になることがあります。理由を表す接続詞としては、「なぜなら…だから；…だから」という意昧を表すbecause…やsince…がもっとも多用されます。また、「理由」という意味のreasonを含むフレーズもOne reason is…「ひとつの理由は…だ」のような形でよく使われます。
◎ Because A, B / B because A「AなのでB」
Because he’s wearing an apron, I think he works there.
エプロンを着ているので、彼はそこで働いているのだと思います。
I think it’s a cocktail because there is a thin straw in her rocks glass.
彼女のロック・グラスに細いストローが刺さっているので、それはカクテルだと思います。
◎ Since A, B / B since A「AなのでB」
Since the teacher is smiling, I think he enjoys his job.
ほほえんでいるので、先生は仕事を楽しんでいると思います。
It looks like summertime,since she’s wearing a pair of shorts.
彼女が半ズポンを履いているので、夏の時期のようです。
◎ One reason is because of..「ひとつの理由は…だ」
One reason is because of the writing on the chalkboard.
ひとつの理由は黒板の書き物です。
◎ Another reason is because…「もうひとつの理由は…だからだ」
Another reason ls because the teacher is wearing a lab coat.
もうひとつの理由は、先生が実験用のコートを着ているからです。
◎ so A (that) B「とてもAなのでB」
Sashimi is so expensive (that) I only eat it on special occasions.
刺身はとても値が張るので、特別なときにしか食べません。
◎ Judging by..「…から判断すると」
Judging by their size, these kids look like middle-school students.
サイズから判断して、この子どもたちは中学生でしょう。
◎ Based on…「…に墓づくと； …を踏まえると」
Based on his smile, I think he’s a good salesperson.
彼の笑顔から、彼はよいセールスマンだと思います。
