「 GENDER ROLES 」

IELTS スピーキングの採点基準「Grammatical Range and Accuracy 文法の知識と正確さ」

で高い評価を得るためには、ミスのない幅広く様々な構文や時制を使うことが必要です。

IELTS試験官に高度な文法知識をアピールしてハイスコアを獲得しましょう！

●　バンドスコア 7 レベル

標準的な文でなるべくミスせず、従属節などを用いた高度な構文にトライすること

が大事になります。　　助動詞（would, could, should, may) も正確に使えることを

アピールすることが重要です。

●　バンドスコア 8 レベル

幅広い多くの高度な文をミスなく使いこなすことが必要です。時制についても正確性

が求められます。　”完了形”　”進行形”　も積極的に使い、ネイティブスピーカーが

自然に話すレベルの文法力をアピールするようにします。

文法の種類と特徴　「過去進行形」

過去進行形の文は現在進行形と同じく be動詞 + ing で作りますが、be動詞の部分を

過去形に変えることで「過去のとある時点で～をしているところだった。」

という意味になります。

〇　 was ～ing と were ～ing の2パターンしかありません。

例文 1

I was watching TV when my son came home

息子が帰ってきたとき、私はテレビを見ていました。

上の英文では、息子が帰ってきたときに、私が「テレビを見る」という継続的な

動作をしていたことが分かります。

例文 2

They were not listening to me at all when I spoke.

He was working there 20 years and they sold the company.

過去進行形は be動詞を文頭に置くことで疑問文を作ります。

「引きこもり」って英語ではどう言うんでしょか？

アメリカでは　　” homebody ” といいます。

例文

Q： What are you doing this weekend?

（今週末は何をするの？）

A： I’m staying at home. I’m a homebody.

（家にいるよ。家にいるのがすきだから。）

”homebody”とは友人たちと出かけたり旅に出たりするよりも、
家で過ごすのが好きな人を言います。

一般的な引きこもりのようなシリアスな感じではありませんが、家で過ごすことが
多い人が「私引きこもりだから」と言うようなレベル感です。

社会と断絶しているような引きこもりというよりは、

出かけたがらないような人を表す単語です。

ネガティブな意味で使う「引きこもり」を表現する場合は、”shut-in” を使います。

”couch potato”も家にいるのが好きな人に使いますが、

これも社会問題的な引きこもりとは少し異なります。

イメージ的には「ソファに寝っ転がってポテトチップスを食べながら

テレビを見てぐうたら過ごす」という感じです。

「手渡す」って英語ではどう言うんでしょか？

アメリカでは　　” hand over ” といいます。

例文

Can you hand over the worksheets to those students?

そこにいる生徒達にこのワークシートを手渡ししてくれる？

hand over は、（ものを）人に手渡す、譲る、（責任・保管などを）人に任せる

と言った意味でカジュアルな表現です。

また、ビジネスシーンでは、仕事を引き継ぐときに使われます。

I have to hand over some of my tasks to my staff.

（私の部下に仕事の一部を引き継がなければいけない。）

名詞では「手」の意味があるhand（ハンド）ですが動詞で使うとそのまま

「手渡す、差し出す」を意味します。giveとほぼ同じ意味になりますが、

handの方がカジュアルな渡し方になります。

hand over（引き渡す）以外に「hand」を使った表現として

hand in（提出する）,hand out（配る）, hand down（次世代に渡す）といった

意味での使い方もあります。

Royal Dutch Shell – 石油生産のピークを過ぎた

The energy giant Royal Dutch Shell has announced it has passed its peak production of oil. The days of increasing oil production are over and the decline in output has started. Shell said in a press release that, “oil production peaked in 2019”. The “high point” of Shell’s oil production reached around 1.7 million barrels per day. It now expects an annual drop of up to two per cent per year. The fall comes a year ahead of Shell’s initial forecasts. In 2015, the company predicted the peak of global oil demand would be in 2020. The announcement included news that Shell would reduce the number of its oil refineries from 14 sites to six. This means the loss of around 9,000 jobs, or more than 10 per cent of its workforce.

In other areas of the UK, one could purchase a spacious seven-bedroom mansion with sprawling grounds for that sum. However, the skinny house is just 2 metres wide, although it does have five floors. The two-bedroom house is in west London and is being sold by real estate agent Winkworth. アメリカでは　　” crook ” といいます。

crookは「泥棒」「詐欺師」「犯罪者」などの意味があり、サイバー空間の悪者は

「cyber crook」（またはcyber-crook、cybercrook）とも呼ばれます。

詐欺サイトを使って人をだましたり、マルウェアをまき散らしたり、他人のコン

ピュータに不正侵入したりといったインターネット犯罪全般にこの言葉が使われ

ています。

犯罪者の意味で使われるときは厳密には犯罪でなくても何らかの「不正を働いて

いる人」というニュアンスで使います。

それに比べてcriminalは、「犯罪者」という意味で使う最も一般的な名詞で、捕

まったかどうかにかかわらず、法律上の罪を犯した人全般について使います。

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced it will grant citizenship to foreign residents who “add value” to the nation. It is very rare for a Gulf state to bestow citizenship on foreign nationals and represents a bold revision of the UAE’s immigration policy. UAE Vice-President and ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum explained that people with “specialised talents” who “contribute to our development journey” could fall under the new policy. He said artists, doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, intellectuals, inventors investors and scientists could be eligible to be given a UAE passport. All successful people and their families would be permitted to hold dual nationality.
