「  意見が合う 」って英語ではどう言うんでしょうか？

アメリカでは　　”  see eye to eye ” といいます。

例文

It’s really easy to work with him on projects because we see eye to eye on most things.

プロジェクトを彼と働くのは本当に楽だ。だってほとんどのことで意見が一致するから。

「see eye to eye」は「目を合わせる」という意味に見えますけど違います。

「意見が一致する」という意味です。

２人以上の人が、何かの物事に対して「同じ意見・気持ちである、同じ考えである、

同じ方向を見ている」といった状況を表します。

「  嫌なことが起こること 」って英語ではどう言うんでしょうか？

アメリカでは　　”  a rude awakening 　 ” といいます。

例文

I’ve lived in Japan most of my life, so it was a rude awakening when I moved to the US.

人生のほとんどを日本で過ごしているので、米国に移ったときは大変だった。

rude には「粗野な、失礼な」という意味の他に、「突然すぎる、あまりに不意の」といった意味もあります。このため、直訳すれば 「突然の目覚め」 となりますが、

慣用句として「嫌なことが起こること」「とても大変なこと」という意味で使います。

goof off　仕事をサボる

「  仕事をサボる 」って英語ではどう言うんでしょうか？

アメリカでは　　”  goof off 　 ” といいます。

例文

I told them the deadline was Friday, but they kept goofing off and

they didn’t finish the project.”

（締め切りは金曜と言っておいたのに、彼らはずっとサボっていて、仕事を終えられなかった）

仕事などをさぼる、怠けるという意味の句動詞がgoof off です。

goof は「へまをする」「ブラブラと時間を無駄に過ごす」という俗語の自動詞です。

近い表現で、”ditch” や ”blow it off” などがあり、これらは常に「ちゃんとした理由もなくサボる」の意味になります。

“Let’s ditch the afternoon meeting, and just take a long lunch.”

（午後のミーティングはサボって、長めのお昼にしよう）

「  鈍い奴だな 」って英語ではどう言うんでしょうか？

アメリカでは　　”    get a clue ” といいます。

例文

A: I got homemade cookies from Maria. Maybe she knows I’m always hungry. So kind!

（マリアから手作りクッキーもらったよ。多分僕がいつもお腹を空かせているのを知ってるんだろうな。親切だなあ！）

B: Get a clue. She isn’t so kind to anyone…you know what that means, don’t you?

（察しろよ。彼女は誰に対しても優しいってわけじゃない…意味わかるだろ？）

clue は名詞で使われる時は「(解決のための)手がかり、ヒント、鍵」などを意味しますので、

get a clue は「手がかりを掴む、糸口を見つける」という時に使われる語句です。

“Get a clue!” などと言うと、「鈍い奴だな」「察してよ」など軽蔑を含んだ表現になります。

called on the carpet　　叱責する

「  叱責する 」って英語ではどう言うんでしょうか？

アメリカでは　　”   called on the carpet ” といいます。

例文

All the sales persons were called on carpet.

セールスマン全員が呼び出されて 叱られた。

on the carpetで「【しゅうたんが敷いてある場所に（呼ばれて）→】（上役に呼ばれて）

しかられて」の意味になります。

19世紀のアメリカで、carpet は床にしく敷物でその頃、裕福で権威のある人だけが

所有できるものだったらしく、「人をカーペットの上に呼ぶ」ということは、

主人が絨毯を敷きつめた居間に召使を呼びつけて叱ることを表し、現在の

「叱責する、非難する」という意味につながったようです。
